Wood has the gift of soul and loves the human touch. This material accepts our energy and allows itself to be transformed into a form that reflects our will. Wood thus comes to life in the form of a puppet that tells us its story.

What our students say:
I absolutely loved my week learning from Martin, whose beautiful work I had long admired online. I learned valuable wood carving and marionette-making skills from him, and I came out of the week-long workshop with my dream puppet despite the fact that I had never even used a hammer before. We worked on the marionette for 6 days, from around 10 am – 6 pm, one-on-one.
He was very patient and also taught me how to work safely. Before coming to Prague, I had tried to learn how to make marionettes on my own and had a very hard time. Martin made it easy to understand and was also very inspiring, showing me his incredible work and also sharing his passion for music. We had many lovely conversations about the world, and I learned a lot about Czech puppetry. I would absolutely come back again, and I highly recommend this workshop for anyone who is interested in making something amazing with their hands or anyone who is (like me) in love with marionettes.
As a teacher, I have always found it incredibly powerful to witness children engage in imaginative play with puppets, as they create stories and express themselves through these fascinating objects. Inspired by this, I decided to explore the world of puppetry further and sought out the expertise of Puppet University Prague. I believed that there was no better place to learn about this art form than in the epicenter of puppetry.
After organizing a trip and enrolling in a course, I had the privilege of being paired with Martin, a skilled local marionette carver. For six extraordinary days, Martin dedicated himself to assisting me in bringing to life a puppet that had long been on my mind: a Little Big Foot, symbolizing the unique identity of the Pacific Northwest. From morning till evening, Martin patiently guided me through the intricate process of carving, transforming my vision into a reality beyond my wildest imagination.
The journey was truly awe-inspiring, and the experience will forever hold a special place in my heart. Working alongside Martin was an unforgettable adventure that deepened my appreciation for the art of puppetry and left an indelible mark on my soul.
That week was a dream come true. I had an idea of my puppet ready and Martin was able to explain all the technological and aesthetic principles of puppet making. I really appreciated his ability to get us to finish the puppet in just a few days. His expertise is something that will stay with me for the rest of my professional life. And. His music expertise and choices of playlists were the best! 🙂 Thank you, Martin.
